Maintenance Schedules
The Club has prepared clear and detailed schedules for Line Marking, Re-location of Hoop Holes and the Re-positioning of the Courts to account for general wear and tear, and these procedures can be found in the INFORMATION FOLDER located in the equipment shed. The last two tasks will be undertaken when deemed necessary, and will usually only take place a few times each year. However, Line Marking is a routine task, and all members are expected to assit. The maintenance procedure for Line Marking is set out below.
LINE MARKING
Line marking needs to be carried out every 3 weeks or so, subject to the weather. Members are expected to add their name to the roster, with upcoming rosters noted in the Newsletter. NOTE: Two peole will be allocated to each roster.
Materials Needed: From the back office in the clubhouse you can obtain: the drum of water soluble paint, measuring jug, stirrer, paint brush and the green line marking machine. From the equipment shed; the spray can of white turf paint, the blue scrubbing brush, white spatula, white box of related spares, disposable gloves and wipes.
These all need to be taken out to near the hose or placed on the table. Wheel the marker out to the steps while trying to keep the front wheel off the floor and cement. NOTE if the paint drum is full it will weigh about 20 Kg.
Check that the red tab of the drain tap at the rear of the marker is at 90 degrees to the spigot: the OFF position. – see diagram in the maintenance section.
Timing: It’s better to choose time to remark that allows the morning dew to evaporate away so usually mid-morning to later in the day. Check the hall hire roster so that you have access to the equipment in the clubhouse.
Mixing the Paint: Remove any skin on the paint surface and put it in the bin. Use the stirrer to mix the paint in the drum first, then put the stirrer into the line marker’s tank. The required mix is 3 parts water to 1 part paint Fill the jug to the top with paint then pour into the marker tank and add 3 jugs of water to the tank and stir.
Line Marking: Walk the loaded marker up to the lawn with the front raised because as soon as you drop the front wheel it will begin the paint transfer. Align with the existing line and commence marking. The first 5-10 m will require re-doing as the paint takes a little while to start transferring through the rotating wheels. You are now on your way!!!!
If you walk fairly slowly then you will transfer more paint onto the grass and it will allow you to be more accurate. At the corners, turn slowly as it tends to drip a little. Any spills can be cleaned up by working it in gently with your foot, or simply add water!! Continue to mark all lines for a minimum of three applications, or until the paint runs out, or you are happy with the result.
Hoop holes and other points to hand-mark: Place the spray can close to the hoop holes and mark with the spray paint; similarly for the centre post hole. For the off-side markers, so as not to paint the in-ground magnets, use the small white piece of round wooden dowl with the washer at the bottom located in the spare part box. The stick with the washer is used to stop the paint covering the offside magnets.
Cover each of the 9 off-side holes containing the magnets with the dowl and washer then spray the grass in a small circle around the washer.
For the starting arcs, simlpy place some paint from the line marker in a container, and with the paint brush hand paint the 4 arcs.
Cleaning: Clean all items thoroughly with the hose in the area under the trees near the street, so as not to leave paint marks in the open garden area. To clean the line-marker, open the rear drain tap and tilt the marker back so that it can be flushed and emptied. Hose the wheels vigourously while rotating to remove any excess or drying paint as well as any grass/debris. Also hose along the two flanges on the outside of the tank behind the front wheel and also directly under the bottom of the inside wheel otherwise build-up can jam the wheels. If there is any buildup inside the tank use the white spatula to clear it. Drain the marker tank, and once empty return the rear tap to the CLOSED position.
Return the line-marker and all equipment to either the room or the equipment shed, and retract the hose.
Trouble shooting: In the event of a malfunction, there are specific solutions described for varius issues in the INFORMATION FOLDER located in the eqipment shed.
